Meet the Team

Tamara brings 20+ years’ experience in corporate communications, public affairs and government relations to her clients, eight years as the founder of Coast Communications and Public Affairs. Before that she spent over a decade in public service advising Provincial Ministers and Mayors in British Columbia.

Julian brings over 20 years of strategy consulting experience to his clients. He joined Deetken Insight in 2010, becoming a partner in 2020. His work spans operational strategy, financial modelling, and economic impact analysis, leading projects for public and private sector leaders across Canada.
Tony brings over 20 years of experience leading software engineering at the intersection of data, design, and development. As co-founder of Middle Ground, he applies his technical expertise and passion for sustainability to explore how AI can drive more meaningful public engagement.
Janet brings over 20 years of experience in strategic communications and public engagement. With expertise in leadership, media psychology, and AI ethics, she helps organizations build trust and design human-centred engagement strategies.
Josh Syer is a Business student who is fascinated by the application of AI in public consultation and engagement. Josh created the initial prototype which served as a model that guided the development of Middle Ground into the product it is today. Josh is always seeking the newest technology to implement into Middle Ground.

CO-FOUNDER

Tamara brings 20+ years’ experience in corporate communications, public affairs and government relations to her clients, eight years as the founder of Coast Communications and Public Affairs. Before that she spent over a decade in public service advising Provincial Ministers and Mayors in British Columbia.

Tamara’s main interest is how to bring an integrated set of solutions to help clients communicate with audiences, build profile and reputation. She is an expert in issues management and crisis communications. She has extensive experience developing and delivering public consultation programs.

Tamara has honours Undergraduate and Master’s Degrees in Anthropology from UBC, focused on B.C. Indigenous Nations and contemporary and historic political and cultural issues, working collaboratively with and living on the lands of the Stó:lō people.

Tamara has a passion for community volunteering and governance. She is a board member of the BC Parks Foundation; former Chair of the Kettle Friendship Society Board, a mental health care and housing organization; the former Chair of the Kitsilano Neighbourhood House as well as its Fundraising Committee; the former chair of the Public Affairs Association of Canada BC Chapter. 

She is trained in public engagement and consultation through the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2), of which she is a member.
